Reptile Day
Reptiles!
Reptiles! Reptiles!
Reptile Day in February 2009 was a
great success, with hundreds of children (and their parents)
getting the chance to see some fabulous reptiles close up - and actually handle
some of them. They also took the opportunity to watch the
inaugural Wirrimbirra puppet show, grab some
wonderful souvenirs, talk to the rural bush fire and WIRES people, have
their faces painted and go for a wander through the Fauna Protection
Area at the Sanctuary.
Renowned wildlife experts,
"Crocodile
Encounters", will give
shows and talks throughout the day again this year
(shows at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm), with plenty of hands-on
opportunities for visitors.
There
will be displays and activities, and, of course, you can take the
Wirrimbirra Wildlife Walk and browse through
the Native Nursery to find that special native plant for your garden.
The fabulous Wirrimbirra barbie will be fired up for
a sausage sizzle, and the
Café will have other goodies available for your
dining pleasure.
You’ll find plenty of gift
ideas at Wirrimbirra’s souvenir stall, including a fantastic selection
of Australian-made soft native animals – perfect for your overseas
friends.
If you’re not keen on spending too much time with snakes and such,
Wirrimbirra has a variety of other native animals and birds for you to
enjoy – kangaroos, wallabies, emus, wombats, tawny frogmouths,
rainbow lorikeets and more.
The Macarthur Branch of the
National Parks Association will run a bushwalk at 10 am through
Wirrimbirra's Bargo Brush. To attend the
bushwalk and find the exact location of meeting place ring Beth Mitchie
